Well…it’s been a month since I got back from
my first Kokoda Trek, and it feels like a lifetime ago.

I got home on the Thursday night, in tears, as
I’m sure some of you guys were, and will be,
vowing never to return. I woke up on Friday
wishing that I was back there.

The Trek is an incredible achievement, no matter
how old or fit you are. It’s tough, and some days
you just don’t want to be there. But real life is like
that too, and if you just persist through those difficult
patches, you get to the top of the next hill (or the bottom)
and the view and the sense of achievement wipes away
the negative thoughts.

You will feel the full range of emotions and they will
be uncluttered by whatever normally gets in the way
back home. From Kokoda to Ower’s Corner, the world
is stripped bare. There’s no internet, or MSN Messenger,
or Facebook, or phone calls or sms. There are just you,
your mates and the Trail.

Kokoda has a way of distilling everything into nothing
but effort and achievement. It doesn’t matter how rich
or poor, how educated, how good looking you are –
there is only reward for what you put into it.

Thanks Mick and Marcus for giving me the opportunity to grow (up!).

Hi Matty,

Hope all is well. Guess what mate we are looking into Kilimanjaro. It is the highest mountain in Africa, the highest 'walkable' mountain in the world, a magnificent and spectacular undertaking.

Speaking to a few of the guys from previous trips and also your one about it in 2010.

I will keep you posted. Stay well
